Teaching the Written Word to reveal the Living Word

Children's Ministries

About

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Our children's programs are organized to teach and train the children, in teamwork with their parents, in the Word of God. We desire to work with the children in giving them a solid foundation based in the knowledge, understanding, and application of the Bible. Our programs consist of Children's Church, Sunday School, Sunday Evening Programs, Awana, Summer Programs, Children's Choir and Special Puppet Programs during Bible and Missionary Conferences. Our programs are taught by dedicated and faithful people in keeping with the scriptural mandate found in Ephesians 4:12, to encourage and equip the saints. We also strive to provide education, training, recognition, and resources to those giving of their time and talents as partners with this ministry team. We believe it is a very important privilege to minister to the children that God has brought to us.

AWANA

Awana is an international, Bible-centered children's and youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs, programs and training for students in preschool through high school. Our goal is to equip churches to reach children and teenagers, and their families, with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.

The acronym Awana comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15.

Awana began in 1950 as a youth program at the North Side Gospel Center in Chicago, Illinois. Lance Latham, the church pastor, worked with Art Rorheim to develop a program that would appeal to young people, reach them with the gospel and train them in the Lord’s work. Other churches heard about the success of the Awana program and asked if they could use it. By 1960, Awana had registered 900 churches to start Awana. Today, more than 11,000 U.S. churches run Awana. There are clubs in all 50 states. Awana can also be found in 3,300 churches in 109 other countries and six continents.

The Awana program at Skiff Lake runs with the school year. Our club works with children from 3 years old through 6th grade. Our club night begins promptly at 6:45 p.m. and our club night ends at 8:15 p.m. Our club night incorporates an opening ceremony, counsel time where a bible message is presented, game time utilizing the Awana game circle, and book time where clubbers are encouraged to memorize scripture to help them develop a biblical world view.
